"The business was in its embryonic stage. The marketing you did gave birth to it. Classes filled up, new classes emerged, our retreat centre became known to be the place to go to if you wanted to learn to meditate. Financially, it went from losses to making positive returns." - Owner, Kavita Parshotam
When I started working for the Narrows Retreat as their marketing manager, we were only a few weeks away from a major event. I had no branding elements to work with other than a rather modest website the owner had built herself.
I interviewed the owner and tried to get as much information about her target market as possible. Then, I hunkered down and designed a poster and series of Facebook ads in a consistent look, voice and tone, despite lacking actual branding guidelines. Most of these ads featured original photography that I shot.
Facebook ads were working well for us so I explored more ways to message our products in these ads.
Finally, it was time to work on a brand identity.
The Narrows Retreat was closely tied to the organization Ananda, therefore the logo I designed took inspiration from Ananda's.
A website re-vamp came next. We decided to go for a simple black and white design to allow the photos of the property to pop.
We wanted the top level navigation to reflect the key focus of the retreat, so site visitors can know who we are at first glance. The rest of the content structure easily fell into place.
The building was once an old post office. It now sits on a tranquil riverside, shrouded by greenery and is therefore a hidden gem of the area. Its secluded charm is a major draw, thus it was important for us to feature the building in the banner image.
We finished with a photoshoot of the owner interacting with a client, and a client enjoying the retreat space. I shot all the photos.
